Port

Ports are gateways that allow Murphy to pass through between separate areas of the level.

Visually ports look like long electromagnetic coils, secured with colorful non-conductive material.

Some ports are one-way only while others allow bi-directional movement. Port can only be used if the tile it leads to is empty. Ports look like tubes, which implies Murphy is moving through them, but this is not the case. When Murphy enters the port he instantly emerges on the other side, making ports work a bit like short range teleporters.

Ports can be destroyed by explosions, but they are usually located in places that make it hard or impossible to destroy them. They are non-rounded, so objects do not roll off them.

Ports often appear in chains, allowing Murphy to travel fast between different areas, essentially doubling his movement speed.

Variants

  • downward one-way port
  • upward one-way port
  • leftward one-way port
  • rightward one-way port
  • horizontal two-way port
  • vertical two-way port
  • all-way port

Special ports

Special ports can influence the level globally by altering gravity or freezing entities. These changes apply when Murphy passes through a special port.

In original Supaplex only one-way ports can be special. Supaplex Online allows all ports to be special, and expands the settings options.

Serial ports

On levels where serial ports are enabled it is possible to connect ports without spaces in-between them. Such long port segments allow extremely fast travel between distant areas. Brainyplex levelset uses serial ports prominently.

By default ports cannot be connected, and serial arrangements will simply be considered blocked.

Any special ports that appear in the serial chain are evaluated in order when Murphy passes through them.
